Studio Major Assignment Brief

1) Corporate Portrait + full length portrait Idea

styleandbeauty.cult2.net

  • generic "pretty" style of lighting- white back-lit background with 2 diffused lights on either side of the subject. No strong shadows.
  • subject body turned to the right, face facing camera, light smile, arms crossed but open expression to give appearance of not hiding anything.
  • Shot taken from eye-level or from a slightly lower angle to give sense of power.
2) Group Portrait Idea

  •  alternative band cd cover "The Three Wise Monkeys"
  • simple group lighting style- possible rim lighting.
  • tungsten light on right side- whit reflector on the other, strong backlight.
  • Using 3 classmates wearing black, against a black background. Will have to put people slightly in front of one another to stop shadows getting on their faces.
3) Editorial Portrait Idea

  • friend coming in with snowsuit with reflective helmet.
  • Strong but mysterious lighting on subject- black background- light shapers needed as well as rim lighting.
  • 55mm lens, no other lenses or camera, unfortunately.
Edit:
The magazine will be Australian New Zealand Snowboarding magazine. This editorial shot will be about the cutting edge of technology in the snowboarding sphere. Chris is the subject who will be shot in half light half shadow to create a mysterious effect. May experiment with black & white effects.

Unfortunately studio shoot are rare for this extreme outdoor sport. The shoot may have to be more candid than originally intended. For a studio shoot to make sense the lifestyle of the snowboarder may have to be showcased- sitting shots, drinking red bull, cleaning equipment etc.
Studio shoots regarding snowboarding are mainly used for the advertising of necessary sportsgear.
